“All you really need to do is accept this moment fully. You are then at ease in the here and now and at ease with yourself.”-Eckhart Tolle
Welcome to the third week of my #100DayProject. While I started watercolor painting as a way to combat my perfectionism, it has become an important part of my morning ritual. I use the early morning hours to process my emotions and combat my anxiety. Watercolors have blended into my routine so easily that it feels as if I’ve been doing it far longer than 21 days.
Things I discovered this week:
- Start every painting with a wash of light color
- Taping the paper to the board is highly satisfying
- Pulling off the tape is equally satisfying
- I work best when I have a source image
- I need to accept my limitations
Although I’m still enjoying the painting process, my skill level is limiting my creativity. My challenge going forward will be to see what happens after I accept this uncomfortable feeling. Thanks for following me on another adventure and being so supportive. Let me know if you have a favorite painting or haiku. I love hearing from you.

#1
fuzzy purple dears
hazy purple cloudy years
don’t forget to breathe

#2
snowy wonderland
pine-scented fantasy world
come get lost with me

#3
fall with me, Alice
down another rabbit hole
where purple skies sing

#4
something calls to me
in the ancient borogoves
do you hear it too?

Thanks! I think I need to start experimenting with mixing colors more as most of these have a simliar color palette.

Thanks, Nicole! That’s my favorite too. I really like doing the pen drawing first and then painting over it. Almost like coloring ❤️

I’m torn, both with the poetry and the painting. I like both #2 and #3 this time and I guess I lean ever so slightly more towards #3. Great work, Bridgette.

Sounds like you have the right approach to enjoy this very creative challenge – and I like the layers in the last one and how fun to imagine Alice in the purple

I like first one all mixed colours in that picture it’s not too bright colours it’s simple and beautiful it’s representing loneliness and at the same time being with family and friends it’s a mixed emotions in that picture.

I’m so glad you see all that in my painting. Thank you for the kindness!

First, I love what you do. I think you are as much your art as are your paintings/poems. (And I think you’re more nice than me.)
I enjoyed your weeks discoveries!
About perfect results. Per my mentor poet Wm. Stafford, imagine that perfect poem/painting (sitting over there. think map.). However the ONLY path to getting there is first doing this, then that (neither quite your best). So you can only get where you want to be by accepting the path going there. (ie. judge yourself as kindly/little as possible)
Me don’t think skill level limits creativity. Creativity is always possible. Skill is more about finesse.
As they are, I like your paintings with their little poem tails. Nice.
Maybe you might enjoy/learn from a young girl who wrote poems, age 7 or so I think. (I did) Sahara Sunday Spain, “if there would be no light”. Out of print but worth finding used.
Thanks. You make me feel “safe”. So I talk a lot. neil

Thank you Neil for this thoughtful comment. As you’ve probably seen, I’m a huge over thinker. I’m really hard on myself and it’s something I’m working on. Years ago I let my perfectionist attitude rob me of many wonderful opportunities. I am older, maybe wiser, and now I live in the uncomfortable place of vulnerability. Your mentor sounds very wise, as are you. I appreciate your comment and you ❤️

This is my favorite line: “My challenge going forward will be to see what happens after I accept this uncomfortable feeling.” I love that you’re sharing this journey with us!

Thanks! Yes, that feeling has grown and I’m leaning into it and I’m curious what it will turn into.

I love them all but especially the ones with trees! The last verse intrigues me, perhaps it’s my age, but ‘borogoves’? 🙋♂️

I’m so glad you enjoyed these! Sorry for the slightly obscure reference of borogoves. It’s from the poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll-my favorite.
“’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe. “

1’s green and purple really compliments the pale background, and 4 has some striking earthy shades in the landscaping. Lovely mix of watercolors, Bridgette! 🎨 👑

Gorgeous paintings, Bridgette. I love your fuzzy purple dears, #1. I also love #3 for its vivid colour and its tanka. You are getting better each time you take on this challenge. I wondered how you got such neat borders on your paintings; I’d never thought of using tape. What a good idea. I guess it’s like using tape in decorating to stop the paint from reaching places where it’s not wanted, like with skirting boards. A very random thought, I know! I’m glad you explained borogoves in the comments, as I didn’t know this word, either. Really interesting. Much love to you and your daughter, as always. Xx 🌼💝🌻

Thank you for saying I’m getting better. Although I am not sure I see any improvement. I think I might have to watch some painting videos to see what techniques I could use to get more depth or interest, but for now it’s serving the purpose of stress relief. A friend told me about the paint trick-it’s really to keep the painting in place, but has the added benefit of creating a little border. Thanks for the love. Back at you ❤️❤️❤️

All of these watercolor paintings turned out great! You should be so proud of what you created! One of the hardest things to do in watercolor in blending and you have that skill down already. 🙂
