— Neil Gaiman, American Gods
Last week I spent a few days along the Northern California coast and had plenty of wonderful sights to photograph with my Olympus OM-D. I’ve selected my five favorite images below as part of my #100DayProject. I’m fairly new to photography and appreciate feedback and advice.
If you’re unfamiliar with the 100 Day Project, the concept is simple. You choose any creative project you like and do it every day for 100 days, sharing your process on social media using the hashtag #The100DayProject. This year the dates are Feb. 13-May 24.

These images are cute. They reveal something about the vastness of the universe. I love your photography, Bridgette. 💖

It looks like you had fun with this series of photos . . . observing and capturing a variety of subjects. I really like the bird-and-moon photo!

Thanks, Priscilla. That was my favorite photo. I wasn’t sure about how the sunlight makes the little orange spot on the wing, but I loved having captured both the bird and moon in the same frame.

All beautiful photos, Bridgette, well done. I like the variety of subjects. Do you do any processing?

Thank you, John! I’m using the software on my Apple computer to crop and adjust warmth and light. As my skills improve I might invest in something with a bit more power. Can you recommend good editing software?

It’s a journey learning photography, enjoy!
I curreently have three main applications I use: Aurora HDR, great for putting a beautiful spiff on your photo’s colors and definition.
Second is Photoscape X, photography software in it’s own right but I usually use it in conjunction with Aurora.
My most recent aquisition is the Nik suite of photo apps, all three applications are purchased, no freebies! I hope this helps you, Bridgette! Be well. ❤️

Thank you! I’ll consider those as I move forward in my learning process. I’m going to attempt some senior portraits of my nephew next week and I’m terribly nervous!

I’m sure that you can do it! I would use a tripod for that kind of photography. I rarely use one, even shooting landscapes. Let me know how that shoot goes! ☺️

I’ll see if I can get a tripod before then-great advice. I’ll keep you posted!

Thanks, there are tons of options out there for tripods, if you have a local camera store, ask them. May save shipping charges.👍🏻

A great selection! I especially loved the last image – Was it on the window of a book store?
LikeLiked by 1 person
It was! They had a list of books to buy inside along with a large poster with this Stephen King quote, “Read whatever they’re trying to keep out of your eyes and your brain because that’s exactly what you need to know.”

So glad you had time along the northern CA coast. It is so different from the southern CA coastline (which seems to be a much more popular and well-known shoreline). I love the northern coast area, too… no so much for swimming, but for the beauty of nature, rugged rocks, high splashing waves, etc. Unspoiled, and much less cluttered. We’ve stayed with friends in the area where Haystack Rock is. So beautiful! You’ve captured the blue beauty very artfully in your ocean photo!

Yes, it’s chilly and windy and far too cold to swim but there’s a certain wildness that makes me feel fully alive. Thank you for the feedback and kind words!

Hi Bridgette, I had an email saying you’re following my blog but I’m not sure you’ve visited it. Anyway, I use an OM-D as well. I wanted a good camera that was smaller and lighter but had great image stabilization because I have no patience for tripods. It’s been a great camera and there are some excellent lenses for it. You’re already having fun with it, I can tell. I like the variety here – the black and white, the bird with the moon, the signs, etc. Just keep making as many photos as you can. You can check out some of the videos online about the camera but it can be easy to be overwhelmed by all the menus and choices so start simple.
For processing, I use Lightroom, which requires a monthly fee, but that program does so many things, it’s worth it, I think. Lightroom takes some time to learn but you won’t need any other programs – you can do all kinds of things with it. Have fun and thanks for the follow!

Thank you so much! I’ll look into Lightroom as I grow my skills and knowledge. I’ve started looking at the world differently with this project, pulling off the road yesterday to photograph a field of wild flowers and an overcast sky. I can tell photography will be a lifelong passion for me and I look forward to following you and others for inspiration.

A good selection and use of colour and B&W photos in a mix. Like everyone else the bird and Moon is a favourite. The balance in the sea and sky in the first photo is just about right, might have worked better in landscape 🙂

Thank you so much for the feedback. I’ll go back and make that photo a landscape and play with how that looks. I appreciate your advice immensely!

Hi Bridgette, fantastic concept for starting a new challenge. Love all the shots, but I’m a big fan of seascapes so the first shot is my favourite; you’ve captured the moodiness of the ocean perfectly 😃

Another good thing to look up (if you don’t already know it) is the rule of thirds. My blog is littered with some of my images, if you want inspiration feel free to just scroll my home page and see what you think. ❤️

Great pictures. I like the one with the bird in flight a lot. And “read banned books!” A hundred years ago we have a paperback and comic shop. Loved meeting the people that read.
