Photography: Buck Moon

She walks into the artificial wilderness on unsteady feet and looks around. Nothing seems real. Perhaps she’s fallen. Perhaps she’s dreaming. Perhaps she’s lost her mind. It’s not until she looks up that she finds herself.

“There you are moon,” she says.

The moon says nothing back and she feels better.

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?”
—Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

The seventh full moon found me feeling lost. I’m surrounded by tough things; sudden death, cancer, money troubles, injury, hurt friendships, and mental health struggles. Those I love are hurting and I feel helpless. So, here we have some photos that aren’t exactly right. They are a bit nonsensical. I hope you like them. Let me know if you have a favorite.

These photos were taken with an Olympus OM-D and edited with ON1 Photo RAW.

  1. Sunflower by moon light is my personal favorite.

When down is up and up is down try to remember things will turn around. If you cannot worry knot for things have a way of untangling on their way to fertilizing whatever we need. 🕊️ Thank you for sharing. 🙏

    • Thank you for these kind and wise words. I’m glad you liked the sunflower. I threw a packet of wildflowers into a pot and it was a wonderful surprise. I smile at it every morning and will miss it when it’s gone.

    • Thank you for the kindness, Nicole. This was my attempt at remembering even when things feel like they are sad all around me, I need to look up. I need to remember there is joy here too. I’m so lucky for those that show up in my life.

    • What makes that particular flower even more special is I threw some wildflower seeds into a pot and it grew the tallest. I have a sunflower patch in another part of my yard but none are as stunning as this one. It deserves moonlight praise.

  2. #3 and 4 drew me in, but the reflection in #6 makes me think of gold waiting to be mined. 💞
Those rough patches when it seems you are in the middle of a 💩 storm (either directly or with those you love) are so hard to walk through. Sending hugs and prayers that you find your way out of the storm soon, Bridgette. 💞

    • Thank you, Dawn. It seems I’ve been in such a storm for years, but it’s not entirely true. There are moments of joy in all of it. I just sometimes get stuck slugging through the hard and forget to look up.

I’m glad you liked my photos. #6 was one of my favorites. It’s the light below that deer statue reflected in the water and there was something about the gold and the moon I really liked. It seemed almost magical but with a hint of spookiness.

  3. Bridgette, it’s such a service to others when you show up and give what you can…the raw, the imperfect, the unfinished. Our messy middles are messages to others who need the knowledge of where we’ve been. We all give each other little road maps to get through just this time-or day-or hour. Sending you comfort and peace and rest.

  4. 3’s leaf silhouette looks very eerie below the moon & the muted flowers 8-10 look so striking against a black backdrop! Sorry that you’ve been through so many rough challenges all piling up at the same time. Hope things are looking brighter for you this week ❤

    • Thank you so much, Tom. It feels like life is just like this sometimes. I’m in a period of hard things, but still there are flowers at night. That’s what’s important. To still find the beauty.
