Labor Day weekend I visited our local Chalk It Up event, a free open-art festival for families. My daughter had the privilege of opening the show with her G.I.R.L.S. Rock Sacramento band. One of her friends was a featured alumni artist and created the first image below. This event has become a family tradition and this year felt even more special with lots of our friends and family attending. Life has been busy, but it’s never too late to share.
Let me know if you have a favorite image and have a fantastic day!

- The last photo is of my gorgeous daughter. I’m so proud of her. Keep playing!
- Photos were taken with an Olympus OM-D and edited with ON1 Photo RAW.

Yep! She’s played lots of instruments, but the bass is her love. It was so fun to see her play such a big event. She did amazing and it’s just the start.

It looks and sounds like a fun event Bridgette. The sun face and alien images caught my attention.

Glad you liked those two. Itโs a really nice event. The only thing that would make it better is if it wasnโt 100 plus degrees every year.

Ugh! We’ve had very hot summers the last few years too and I don’t handle the heat as well anymore.

Wonderful chalk art. I hope your daughter has fun. I “borrowed” my daughters Bass guitar as she wasn’t playing much any more

Thank you. I love hearing both my kids do their thing on guitars and bass. I can barely pluck a tune on my ukulele, but I try anyway.

Keep plucking away, you can only improve doing at least half and hour a day.
I practise guitar every day, some days for hours. I have gotten better but I have been playing for a long time

Right?! Iโm always in awe of the artists that show up for Chalk It Up knowing their work is temporary.

There is a guy from around here called the Chalking Dad that is pretty popular. Your daughter looks so natural.

How fun! I’ll have to see if he has an Instagram. My daughter is a natural with the bass. Once the music starts all her nerves go away and she just does her thing.

I’m hopeless at art and am always so impressed by anyone with the slightest talent, but the girl at #12 is brilliant – as is your rock star daughter.

Thanks! I’m not great at art either and love watching people who can make something magical appear with just a few movements of their hands. They make it look effortless.
