I’ve been doing a lot of portrait photography lately, and neglecting my nature shots. I tried to remedy that by capturing the moon a few weeks ago, but I couldn’t find it before it got super dark outside. Here’s my best attempt, including two shots I took while doing an adorable family shoot at the river.
Also, thank you to those reading my daily poems. It’s a project I’ve been wanting to do for a while, but it’s honestly feeling like a lot. I appreciate everyone rooting me on and supporting me.
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend.

- These were taken with my Olympus E-M1 MarkII, using several different lenses and edited with Lightroom Classic.
Another great set, Bridgette, I like the bridge photo with the couple. ❤️

Thanks, John. I really wanted to photograph the moon over that bridge, but alas, it got super dark and the moon refused to rise high enough for me to see it. I ended up driving a bit and finally seeing it! I pulled over and took those in a parking lot.

A beautiful collection! Your portraits may be wonderful, but these nature shots remind us that beauty is everywhere for those who pause to notice it.
I especially admire your dedication to both photography and your daily poetry project. Keep going—your creativity is inspiring, and your work continues to brighten the days of your readers, including me.

Aww! I needed that encouragement today. It feels sometimes like “why am I working so hard?” I know creating is good for my soul and I love when something I share resonates, but daily motivation can be hard to find at times. Thank you for seeing me and cheering me on.

Poetry can best you. I have this feeling that you won’t allow it to, though.
I hope you stick with it. I love how your mind works… you don’t just write poetry, you pour stories out onto the screen that are massive and artful, yet bite-sized chunks of knowledge and reflections, too.

You made my day with this thoughtful comment. I’ve always waited for poetry to just flow, usually after a highly emotionally charged moment. I knew writing it daily would force me to see it differently. Twelve days feels like 100 already…I’m often not posting until right at midnight. Hoping I can find a way to the words sooner. I’m not giving up, and words are the exact encouragement I need right now.

Like #1. Like #3 but thought “why not crop it in?” only to see #5! And I appreciate the whimsey of #8

Thanks! I’ve been STRUGGLING to find the moon lately as it rises so late and is hidden for so long by buildings and such. These were taken after I left the river, which is where I thought I’d get good moon shots, but it was late and no moon! I finally saw it and pulled over and took these in a parking lot 😭

These moon photographs are really great. There’s something fascinating about looking at the moon. My amateur attempts have never been good. Is it best to take shots of the moon when there’s still some light?

I’ve learned it’s important to be shooting with spot metering-took me forever to figure that out. I prefer to shoot the moon at sunrise or sunset at the colors of the sky add to the overall photos and are just more interesting, to me. Just a personal preference. I love the moon too!

Great photos. I rather like the number 10.

Aww, thanks! It was the last shot I took. I wanted to get the moon in the reflection too, but it didn’t work 🙂

Love the header pic with the light from the buildings counterpointing the moon. And #8 is pleasing and (to me anyway) an intriguing puzzle to leave with the observer.

Thank you so much, Roy. I have no idea why I can’t seem to get a really good moon shot lately. Luckily I will have another chance to try in a few weeks.

I’ve said this before, I’m sure, but your photos of the moon at night remind me of a Japanese painting or woodblock print, moody and mysterious.
I love your poetry. I don’t know how you manage to write one daily, or do you write a batch in one sitting and post them throughout the week? Either way, it’s remarkable. I still think you should publish them in a book, maybe from one of the indie presses out here in California.

Thank you! What a huge compliment! I need to photograph the moon more often. ❤️❤️❤️
This poetry challenge is something I’ve been wanting to do for awhile. I do write them every day, sometimes close to midnight. I’m actually working on a poetry book paying homage to my dear friend and fellow poet Neil Reid who left us a few years ago. My goal is to have it out by Christmas.

These are so lovely Bridgette. Today I realised that if I hover the mouse pointer over the photo it becomes clearer 🙄 The stand-up paddle boarder looks like he is peeing in the water 😂

Hahaha! Oh no! I hope he isn’t 😭 and yeah, that’s a weird thing that WordPress does with my photos. It’s the theme I selected all those years ago and I’ve been scared to change it. Probably will though in the future.

Maybe there is something in the settings you can change 🤔

This has been bothering me for years. You spurred me to try and figure it out and guess what…I did! Check it out, when you get a second. They should no longer require you to mouse over them to see them at their best. Yay!!!

I never thought a camera could capture the moon so well. A friend of mine bought a lens attachment for his telescope and now the moon and planet photos are awesome. So detailed. I have a Lieca CL yet haven’t tried any moon photos. I think a longer lens is needed.

For me it was changing to spot metering. That made the biggest difference. I don’t have a super zoom lens, but I know I could get better shots if I did. I just love being able to photograph the moon at all. It’s always so magical.

It looks like you have a macro type of lens, am I saying that right. I haven’t learned all the features of my Leica. Leica has not offered camera training in a long time. 🙂

I’m not using a macro here, those are for photographing things really close up. I think I used my 14-150mm lens for this one. Leica’s are amazing cameras! I got a chance to play with a friend’s a few weeks ago, and I loved it! See if you can find out how to shift to spot-metering, I bet that will make all the difference for you trying to photograph the moon.

That’s great to know because my camera has the same range. It’s so funny that I thought macro was for far away. I have forgotten my training. Have a great day.
