My photos this week were all taken around the pond at William Land Park in the early evening. It was warm outside and I learned the lotus flowers I wanted to capture only open early in the morning and are closed by mid-afternoon.
I had the intention of returning later in the week to try again, but my son started summer school and life got busy. Perhaps in a few weeks, when school finishes, I’ll have time to return to this beautiful spot.
Although I didn’t get the blooms, I am happy with the photos I was able to capture of the animals living around the pond, especially the dragonflies. Let me know what you think in the comments below and I hope you have a wonderful week.

These are awesome. My favorite is the turtle. He looks like he’s just chillin’.:-)

Thank you, Priscilla. There were teeny tiny turtles but they were just a little too fast for me to capture. Maybe next time!

Wow, you sure have much better luck with photographing insects on flowers than I do. I’m very impressed!

Thank you! I find it takes a lot of patience and about a million shots to get one good one! Itโs a fun adventure for sure and I honestly never know what I have until I download them onto my computer. Itโs as close to old-school developing Iโm going to get right now.

Lovely shots – it’s hard to get dragonflies. It looks like our pond but a tad less hot…

Thank you! Yes, these dragonflies were buzzing by so fast. I just kept shooting and hoping to catch one. I was so excited when I downloaded the photos. Lucky day.

These are stunning. My fave, though, is the one with the white flowers with the yellow centres. I gasped when I saw it.

I hesitate to leave a comment because you’ve already rec’d so many compliments that you must feel almost overwhelmed (not that you don’t deserve every one)….nonetheless, I suppose one more won’t hurt. Bravo!

Bridgette you grow and grow ALL the time and I hope youโre starting to see it now too! That last bee picture the flower is blown out some. Remember that under exposing is better than overexposing because once you have overexposed something you cannot retain the information back but you can fix an under exposed image. The other pictures are so gloriously on point with rule of thirds and stunning focus. Last tip, when editing donโt over saturate your images. Grass isnโt typically a toxic green color so play with the green slider and pull some blues and magentas back and forth to help you correct that. โค๏ธ

Thank you, as always, for the great feedback. That last bee photo was taken in too harsh of light and I should have tossed it. I tried to make it work because it was such a cute bee! Great point on the grass. This editing stuff can be tricky! I do definitely see how Iโm improving. Lots of space to grow more-which is exciting!

Harsh light can be incredible! Donโt shy away from it. Instead move your body around your subject. You canโt move the sun BUT you can move yourself and youโll know that the light is perfect when you see it ๐ช but 100% donโt shy away from it. I did that for WAY too long until I learned that I was making a huge mistake. The sun is like a big constant light and all you have to do is move your body to get it into the perfect placement ๐ฅฐ the editing will come. Watch a ton of YouTube videos and play with ALL the color toning sliders. Thatโs all editing isโฆ just play until you hit the sweet spot and find your rhythm.

Thank you! I appreciate your advice so much. I’ll play around with the sun more in my photos this week.

Thatโs sure a creative approach to the William land park pond. Most people only capture the lotus flowers. I was there two weeks ago and things had not started yet. I like the first photo, itโs an interesting perspective and the depth of field is perfect.

Make sure low winds in forecast, maybe an overcast day one when the smoke from fires cover the sky for good light.
