“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”—Heraclitus
Our bodies hold onto pain and memory. We can feel it take root within our bones and we can either address or ignore it. I’ve spent the last five years ignoring it, but recently I’ve taken up swimming daily. This practice is slowly returning me to my body. No longer a stranger, we are becoming one again. Pain and all.
I share this and these photos as part of the journey of rediscovery. Look closer. Look again. You might see something different.
I’d love to know if you have a favorite image. I secretly have my favorite. Can you guess?

- These photos were taken with an Olympus OM-D and edited with ON1 Photo RAW.
I’m going to guess number four or ten. All are wonderful.

Thank you. I like both of those, but something about how I had to work for #9 made it my favorite.

I can see that. They are all very good.

River #4 or Squirrel #7 are my guesses. A good range Bridgette 🙂

I’m so glad you see some range here. I’m often worried my shots are too repetitive. #4 is a shot I liked a lot. I love how the water sparkles.

I actually really love #9 because that squirrel was hard to shoot. It made me work for it! My favorite shots are always the ones that surprise me or challenge me. I also love the shadow in #10.

Where do we focus? Habit informs us much. Me, no one in particular. Learned there are really “ground” squirrels and “tree” squirrels; didn’t know that before. And yours? Challenging. A guess? OK, you asked. Number 10 because, I think you, I think people, I think relationships, what you don’t photograph so much, but what you really care about, more than anything. Also ten because of the tree shadows, not alone but in “relationship” to the figures here, and I might also say a rather brilliant take how shadows weave themselves into us, coming and going with the heaven-sent light each day. A dance of sorts.
I think my head hurts now. But just another shadow, passing.

Thank you for seeing those shadows! They are indeed my favorite part of that photo. It’s such a sweet mural.
I took a shot of a father fishing with his little ones at the river but I’m always hesitant to post photos of strangers without their permission. It was far sweeter than any squirrel. I do indeed love people most of all.

I love the sunlight seen through the trees in #4. But I’m also a sucker for English daisies, like in #2. To me they’re a true harbinger of spring in the Central Valley.

Agreed on the daises! I’m likely to take some more springy photos of them soon. My daughter always made crowns of them and they make me very happy.

Thank you. Believe it or not…it’s the sun! I used a low exposure because it was too bright and it really changed everything about the shot.

Bridgette. No 4 is my favourite. A evening scene full of mystery it has a slight hint of moonlight, peeping through the trees,a calming body of water,it’s there to take all your worries away. The coolness makes you realize you are alive, and anything is possible. A new. day will begin shortly.bringung a new start.all pics are beautiful 🙏❤️

Thank you! There is something so peaceful about being beside the river and I think the #4 photo does come close to capturing that feeling.

They are all stunning photographs, Bridgette. Like many people, I love #4 because of the way the light diffuses through the silhouettes of branches; I love the way the clouds swirl in the dark sky, and I can just see two birds in the sky in the distance, and finally, the bubbles in the water at the centre of the photo that look like they’ve been blown up by fish under the surface.
I also can’t choose between #3 and #10. The mural is beautiful and so unusual and the goose just looks so proud of itself and is a great photo. Is that orange patch on the left at the back an orange leaf, or could it be a fox? I wonder. Beautiful photos, as always, my dear friend. Much love to you and your family Xxx 💓🥰💓

Thank you Ellie for such kind feedback! I’m so glad you liked my river photos. I liked #4 for all the same reasons you did. It was actually really sunny outside but I lowered the exposure so you could see the details of the clouds and the water. Glad it worked for you.
That mural is beautiful, isn’t it? I’ve seen it so many times but something about the way the shadow looked made it appear different to me this time. Even more special.
That is a silly goose, isn’t it? I sure wish it was a fox behind him, but sadly it’s just a leaf. I’ve never seen a fox in the wild before. That would be quite a big deal if I did. I might never stop talking about it 🙂

Gotta love #10 which is awesome, but #4 for me I think – the framing, unusual cloud formation. How do you get those creatures to stand still? You cause them no alarm.

I’m so glad you liked #4 Roy, I did too. It was a really beautiful day. Other than the goose, the other creatures didn’t stay still at all. Most of my shots are quite blurry, but these are the ones that I managed to capture before they scampered again. #9 is my favorite because I heard that guy munching away, but it took so long for me to locate him. I only got one shot before he saw me and darted away.

OK so what percentage of your shots do you bin against what you post? Genuinely interested as everything you show us is so good.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Probably around 90 percent go in the bin. I just went and looked at my last shoot and I shot 91 photos and shared 11. Are there still “good ones” in the bin bunch? Sure. But I try and pick a variety of shots and sometimes I just have too many “good” ones of a single subject and not enough variety.
