Photography: River Walk

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”—Heraclitus

Our bodies hold onto pain and memory. We can feel it take root within our bones and we can either address or ignore it. I’ve spent the last five years ignoring it, but recently I’ve taken up swimming daily. This practice is slowly returning me to my body. No longer a stranger, we are becoming one again. Pain and all.

I share this and these photos as part of the journey of rediscovery. Look closer. Look again. You might see something different.

I’d love to know if you have a favorite image. I secretly have my favorite. Can you guess?

  1. Where do we focus? Habit informs us much. Me, no one in particular. Learned there are really “ground” squirrels and “tree” squirrels; didn’t know that before. And yours? Challenging. A guess? OK, you asked. Number 10 because, I think you, I think people, I think relationships, what you don’t photograph so much, but what you really care about, more than anything. Also ten because of the tree shadows, not alone but in “relationship” to the figures here, and I might also say a rather brilliant take how shadows weave themselves into us, coming and going with the heaven-sent light each day. A dance of sorts.

I think my head hurts now. But just another shadow, passing.

    • Thank you for seeing those shadows! They are indeed my favorite part of that photo. It’s such a sweet mural.

I took a shot of a father fishing with his little ones at the river but I’m always hesitant to post photos of strangers without their permission. It was far sweeter than any squirrel. I do indeed love people most of all.

  2. Bridgette. No 4 is my favourite. A evening scene full of mystery it has a slight hint of moonlight, peeping through the trees,a calming body of water,it’s there to take all your worries away. The coolness makes you realize you are alive, and anything is possible. A new. day will begin shortly.bringung a new start.all pics are beautiful 🙏❤️

  3. They are all stunning photographs, Bridgette. Like many people, I love #4 because of the way the light diffuses through the silhouettes of branches; I love the way the clouds swirl in the dark sky, and I can just see two birds in the sky in the distance, and finally, the bubbles in the water at the centre of the photo that look like they’ve been blown up by fish under the surface.

I also can’t choose between #3 and #10. The mural is beautiful and so unusual and the goose just looks so proud of itself and is a great photo. Is that orange patch on the left at the back an orange leaf, or could it be a fox? I wonder. Beautiful photos, as always, my dear friend. Much love to you and your family Xxx 💓🥰💓

    • Thank you Ellie for such kind feedback! I’m so glad you liked my river photos. I liked #4 for all the same reasons you did. It was actually really sunny outside but I lowered the exposure so you could see the details of the clouds and the water. Glad it worked for you.

That mural is beautiful, isn’t it? I’ve seen it so many times but something about the way the shadow looked made it appear different to me this time. Even more special.

That is a silly goose, isn’t it? I sure wish it was a fox behind him, but sadly it’s just a leaf. I’ve never seen a fox in the wild before. That would be quite a big deal if I did. I might never stop talking about it 🙂
