Photography: Aerospace Museum of California

As summer winds down, I took my nephew to a few local museums. By far, the Aerospace Museum of California was his favorite. He loved seeing all the planes and playing with all the interactive materials (Legos and other type of building supplies). We spent almost four hours exploring and playing together.

The museum holds another special place for me. My father was in the Air Force and worked at McClellan Air Force Base my entire childhood. It’s also the place a budding journalist (16-year-old me) got to meet President Bill Clinton and see Air Force One.

#25: My nephew wanted to take my photo because I “looked like a toy” next to the giant plane.
Also, the Man of Steel now has a permanent place in my van.

  1. I love all the close up details, these are the photos I also love taking, and I appreciate seeing them in your work. I’m so glad your nephew got a photo in there too! My favprites are probably #2 and #3 for technical, but definitely #5 for subject. What a great spot.

    • Thanks! Those are my favorite images too. I’m super fascinated by all the parts of planes. I imagine you’ve visited this museum before. I took my kids when they were little, but they didn’t have all the cool stuff they have now. It’s much more interactive and even includes a playroom upstairs and a scavenger hunt with the planes. We had a blast.

    • I’m all in on Superman since the new movie. It’s sooo good! And yes, it’s a cool place. I don’t understand at all how planes work, and couldn’t tell you one type from another, but I sure do like looking at them.

    • Thanks! I was honestly blown away by how huge the planes are. Also, I was truly fascinated by how the glass of the planes has aged over time. I grew up hearing all these planes fly over our house (super close to the Air Force base), but I’d forgotten really how cool they are.

    • It does sort of look like a screensaver! Or one of those pipe games. Glad you liked these and it was an awesome way to end the summer. Now if the weather would turn to fall…
