Photography: Fourth of July parade

Spent the morning at a Fourth of July parade cheering on horses, marching bands and old cars. Here’s a few of my favorite shots for you. Hope you stayed safe today and all your pets got lots of extra cuddles.

    • Those are all veterans and I agree they do kind of look related! I think it is the rule, judging by how many older men I see with beards. It’s a ridiculous holiday really, with people setting off fireworks late into the night. Do you have any holiday where people set off fireworks? We also have stands for the week selling the legal kind and they are run by charities with half the money going to the charity. I worked it this year for my nephew’s school and they make almost their entire fundraising goal in that week. People would routinely spend over $400 on fireworks!

      • Fireworks are still around here, mainly for NYE. More and more people though are realising the distress caused to animals – in Jersey there seem to be as many dogs as people, plus cats, horses etc. Still I get that children are entranced by them – maybe if they removed the bangs 🙂

  1. I’m a sucker for horses, so all of the horse photos. 🤭 #10 is very striking, #33 reminds me of a horse I learned to ride on when I was younger. I love seeing a group of riders in a parade and am glad you got to enjoy them as well. It seems appropriate on a day that commemorates the history of our country (however one feels about it) that horses should appear for a parade!

  2. I see you’re sticking with that faded, nostalgic look. My grandfather took photos of a parade in downtown Seattle in 1953. (I was only a gleam…) although the Kodacolor produced more saturation, the photos you’ve got here resemble his. He shot with a Leica.

I like the header shot of the planes. #’s 8, 15, and 20 appeal, the horses because they are different poses than one usually sees. And #25 is so perfectly framed! Had to shout it out. The guy is looking in JUST the right direction.

    • Thanks! I won’t stay with this style for all my photos, but when it fits, you best believe I’m going to play! I love experimenting with color and it was fun to edit these. Glad you like so many of these, and I was lucky some of the moments just worked out great-like the horse sticking out his tongue!

So cool you have those photos from 1953! Incredible.

      • As you’ve probably sussed, I’m working my way backwards through all the posts I’ve neglected. I like to time with your posts, and often I just save the email notification “for another time” which never seems to occur. Life intervened: family visit, traveling, and all of those things we think we have to do. Looks like I have some going back into March. “Oh my,” said the rabbit, “I’ll be very late!”
