poetry: peach cobbler

last night i was a witch
running from pain
protecting my sacred hip
with a blade of fog

body like a crow
i cut through moonlight
clutching my cloak tight
guarding the hallow

morning brought light
stones tied to joints
memories of protection
shedding feathers across the room

until gathering peaches
i cooked them into magic
transforming them into smoke
bubbling over, but not burnt

tonight i’ll feed them to the birds
gathering them close to the fire
to help sing the pain away
until the fog comes again

  1. This poem feels like a beautiful blend of mythology, nature, and healing. I loved the way you transformed pain into something almost magical—the witch imagery, the fog blade, the feathers, and the peaches all create a dreamlike world where protection and recovery become rituals. The transition from darkness and guarding yourself at night to gathering and transforming peaches in the morning feels especially powerful, like a reminder that healing can come through small acts of care. The final image of feeding the birds and gathering by the fire is hauntingly beautiful, leaving the reader with a sense of comfort and hope. A truly imaginative and atmospheric piece.

    • Oh my goodness, thank you for such a kind comment. This one was very hard for me to write, as the pain I’m feeling right now often makes me feel like I’m moving backwards or standing still…or stuck. This poem was me processing it and I love the way it moved for you.
