swallow down embers, me
disappear into peat smoke
if you can’t smooth out
turn obsidian again
don’t appear at all, me
nettle strewn carpet
break down another layer
elements shift again
duff becomes humus, me
sorry, can’t make it
shattering too messy
they were right
run away from, me
write until it stops
tiny seeds open
gravity threads again
split the bedrock, me

What a powerful and beautifully layered poem. The imagery of embers, peat smoke, obsidian, nettles, humus, seeds, gravity, and bedrock creates a fascinating journey through destruction, transformation, and renewal. I especially love how the repeated “me” gives the poem a deeply personal pulse, as though the speaker is simultaneously breaking apart and becoming something new.

dense. Love it. Had to re-read immediately after the final line have me a different perspective.

Beautiful work.
I am especially struck by how the geological and botanical imagery turns inner upheaval into something elemental, making transformation feel both painful and inevitable.
