Photography: Morning Walk

“Nobody can bring you peace but yourself.” —Ralph Waldo Emerson

I’ve found a new walking path near my house which is kinder to my healing hip. There are beautiful old trees, a view of the mountains, lots of birds, and a pond with ducks. I’m grateful for the beauty it contains and the gentle slopping path I can walk and think.

My childhood best friend lost her father recently. He was like a father to me too, a loving and beautiful man who loved to fix and collect things. I’m working on a poem to honor him, but it’s not ready yet. Instead, I decided to do another photo post this week and share my special place with you.

May you find a moment of peace today.

  1. Wonderful photos, Bridgette, I carved my initials and hers in a tree back in 1982 I think it was, in northern lower Michigan. The tree outlived the relationship I’m sure. I wonder if that tree is still standing…

    • I’m not sure what kind of flowers those are…maybe a type of lavender. The bees were all over them. These were taken a few days ago and a storm has arrived today, but it’s kind of lovely to have rain on lazy Sunday morning.

  2. I love the photography. I remember reading about Ralph Waldo Emerson and Transcendentalism and enjoyed throughly. I think it was my first time going into critical thinking and thinking for myself (consciously, I’ve always thought for myself but not like that). It was very interesting.

I feel like the photography draws so well into the theme overall, since it has such a focus on nature.

My favorites are the stacks of rocks and the bees. Thank you so much for including me in your journey. It’s wonderful. ☺️

Each picture had its moment and it captures that moment in you internally, in me internally, and whoever sees in internally. It also captures how it may be externally—but that’s a completely different theory.

    ☺️ Thank you for posting.

    • What a lovely and thoughtful comment. Yes, I’ve been looking at a lot of art of photography lately and asking myself what about it appeals to me…and it’s always the story behind the moment. Good photos and art transport us and make us feel some connection to memory or imagination. I’m glad my photos did some of that for you. It’s the highest compliment I could receive.

  3. Wonderful photos, Bridgette. Your photography skills just get better and better. They say every picture tells a story, and yours definitely do that. It’s difficult to choose my favourites – I love the one with the delicate blue/purple flowers in sharp focus and the clear image of the bee in motion in the background. I also love the stones piled on each other. I’ve always been fascinated by stones stacked one upon the other, and yet, they don’t topple over. And I’m torn between the sparrow (because we used to get lots of them in our gardens, but now, we hardly ever see one, which is sad) and the heart carved into the tree trunk. There would definitely be a story behind that one, and I’d love to know what it is. Instead of that, I’ll just use my imagination. That image would make a really good prompt for a piece of writing or a poem. Thinking of and sending love to you and your daughter, always. Xx 🤍🤍🤍

    • Thanks for your thoughtful and kind comment. Feel free to use that photo for a poem if you like. I think it could definitely spark some lovely prose. I spent the day at the art museum with my daughter and her best friend. It was so lovely!

      • Thank you for saying I could use one of your photos to write a poem or something else. I will give it some thought. I have a story I want to share, but I just can’t find the right image for it – so frustrating. I’m glad you have a lovely day with your daughter and friend. I’d love to go to an art museum. Over here, we have The Tate Modern, which I love but cannot get to anymore. I love modern art – it really intrigues me. Hope your day is a good one, my friend. Xx 💝

    • Thank you. He was such a great guy, taught my kids to fish and shoot BB guns. A tinker and handyman. Always quick with the jokes. He’s called my husband “slick” since I started dating him in high school 😂

    • Thank you so much, Jessica. He’s not lived in the same state as me for some time, but I have such fond memories of the time we had together. He taught me and then my children how to fish and passed on his love of collecting. I’m really feeling his loss.
