poetry: suddenly shifted

yesterday sunlight told me
put away winter things
pay attention to thirst
grass wants to be green

yesterday body told me
old stories can die
swallow up light
trust what flowers say

today I listen

  1. Oh you know how much I adore the marriage of image and prose. However image here is first, and I could have lingered for a year or two more, so quietly compelling. Already in love. Then when I let the prose settle in like the image did, it takes on a luster of it’s own, such a fine mate to the image. Short and sweet and, direct. I “feel” your poem. Rather like that sense.

And you also know nosey me. Two suggestions. Line 4, change “stay” into “be”. Be is bigger than stay. Be is a state bigger than time. Nifty? Maybe?

Two, within one blink of an eye. Second stanza, after 3rd line, add on line space before the following line, “trust… “, makes for an interesting evocative ripple at this point in the poem. Do you feel it? Subtile but worth it I think.

Lovely work. All of it. Glad to be your friend.
