within chest, flowers climb
worry weavers, petals purple
down drooping, up growing
Valkyrie songs, deep humming
no, deeper
reach another
another
one moreΒ
press fingers together
pollen falls, tight places
explodes out, spreads
green shrugs
we know nothing
Liking your inclusion of “Valkyrie songs” here. It is evocative.
Good morning, Bridgette.

Thanks, Michael. I’ve not written a poem in awhile, but this one came to me this morning as I took my walk. Partly, I think, because I dreamed last night I stood in a Valkyrie museum, the marble statues of the warriors staring me down, as if daring me to make a move.
It’s so strange. I haven’t cared at all about the success of my writing, but now, having this book out in the world, I feel a new kind of pressure I don’t like. A fear for it to “do well.” I don’t like this feeling.
I’m starting work on my next project, a poetry book, and I think that’s where my energy should be. Not worrying about silly things like if anyone reads or buys my book.

Look forward, definitely. It will do as it does once you release it into the wild. It might even surprise you.
I’m sure folks will enjoy your book. I’m looking forward to it. π

Thanks, Michael. I’m leaning into “we know nothing” right now, especially with this moment in politics. All I can do is make the next thing and keep moving forward.

Thank you! I’ve not written poetry in awhile, and it felt good to take a moment and try and express where I am right now.

I understand. I feel rusty with poetry too and have the urge to express more.

Oh I love the action verbs in this poem. I could easily trace and visualize the occurrence. The imagery is rich, Bri.

Thanks! I’m so glad you like it. I’ve not changed it since I launched in 2013. A lot about me has changed and I think the new look better represents my growth. I’m not writing about being a mom much these days.
