Last week I revisited the Tomales Catholic Cemetery after spending the week with my family at the beach. Here are some of my favorite images from my brief time wandering the small area with my camera. I’m experimenting again with a more vintage, film-like editing style. Let me know what you think and if you have a favorite images.
If your interested, here are the photos I took at the same place in 2023. I think I may like those images better, but these certainly invoke a different feeling. What do you think?
- These were taken with my Olympus E-M1 MarkII, using several different lenses and edited with Lightroom Classic.

What a beautiful and atmospheric collection of photographs! 📷✨ There is something wonderfully timeless about the vintage, film-like editing—it gives the cemetery a quiet, nostalgic character and makes each image feel like a glimpse into another era.
I especially appreciate how you’ve captured not just the place, but the mood and stories hidden within it. The softness of the editing seems to complement the stillness of the surroundings beautifully.

Thank you! That’s exactly what I set out to do and I’m glad it translated for you. I really think editing cemeteries with different styles might become a new series for me. So many things to see and capture, all part of life.

Absolutely! The last time I photographed a cemetery I did monochrome, and it does really add to the timeless nature. I thought these were fun though and left in some of the color of the place, particularly that incredible sky.

The film-like look certainly suits the subject, giving it a timeless quality. It is impossible to pick a favourite here. Yet, #18 sets the tone and context beautifully.

I think the vintage look really suits this subject, especially the ‘scene’ shots (as supposed to the close-ups).

Agreed, it doesn’t do much for the close up shots. I’m having so much fun playing with color these days. I’m trying to find my “look.”

I love cemeteries, especially wandering through them on a wet, misty day. Looks like you enjoyed this visit – #16 in particular captures the subject well with a robin (?) bonus, and the rolling hills and mysterious cabins.

Me too! I think I’ll try and find a couple more cemeteries I can visit in the coming fall months, when the weather is windy and the trees are changing color. I do think that is a robin. That was my favorite shot.
