What’s Bridgette Tales?

Started in 2013 as a mommy blog, Bridgette Tales is the online home for author, poet, and photographer, Bridgette Kay. That’s me.

I started my creative journey online with the words: “Once upon a time there was a mother who wanted to do something other than dishes and laundry.”

It ended with the words: “She took a deep breath and just went for it.”

For over a decade that’s what I’ve been doing—taking a breath and moving forward. I’ve branched out from journal blog entries into photography, poetry, a quick try at watercolors, fiction writing, and most recently, self-publishing.

My debut short story collection Watering Words: 52 Short Stories is now available to purchase under the label of Bridgette Tales Press (how cool is that?) I’ve also got a book of poetry and three more manuscripts in the works. It’s scary and exciting. It can be both, right?

I’m unlearning the need to wait for perfection and embracing a messy, vulnerable creative process. I’ve found a fantastic writing group and I’m in love with everyone who joins me in being vulnerable.

I mean you.

Yes, you.

Make art. Use your voice. Tell me about it.

If you are new around here, welcome! I’m glad you’ve found me here and I hope you’ll leave a comment or share your art with me. We need each other.

If you’ve stuck around through all the versions of this blog—you’re amazing and I love you! It felt like the right time to change the header of my blog. I hope you think so, too.

And, just in case you miss it, I’m keeping my older header right here. When my son was small he drew me as Super Mom with a sword by my side and a mask across my eyes. I’m always going to be her, but now I’m a bit more comfortable taking the mask off.

I’m glad you are here.

My debut short story collection Watering Words: 52 Short Stories is now available for purchase! Read more about the book here and on Instagram. Options for purchase:

I began my blog after being cast in the spoken word show Listen to Your Mother. It was the catalyst for reconnecting with my creativity, and the people I met through the process continue to inspire me.

Years later, I was cast in the final performance in San Francisco. This one wasn’t recorded, but you can read the piece I read aloud: The mom bathing suit vs. the hipster pool

  2. Hello Bridgette. You are a lady of courage, and your testimony proves this fact. One of my mottos is ‘Pavi Gradus Determinate’ – small steps with determination.’ The pleasure and satisfaction I glean from a post is worth the creative effort. If some are touched by the post, that’s the cherry on top. If none – At least I enjoyed it. In my long life, I’ve learned many things; one of these is: there are some things I can change in my life and others I can’t – common sense in deciding which I choose gives me peace.
Thank you for the follow; I’ll do the same for you. Peter-James.
