poetry: rootbound

expose my roots in warm sunlight
soften all stems
let pearls fall
lean in closer
geosmin scented breath
see how twisted old thoughts grow
don’t go yet
shine through the particles
show me yours

  1. It is restrained poem. The ‘geosmin scented breath’ is such a compact expression, linking the opening and the end, or the end and the beginning (of grief), carrying immense emotional weight.

    Let pearls fall….

    • I saw that vase in my window, the roots twisting in the water, and thought it would work for how I’m feeling doing these daily poems. It’s not getting easier, but I do think I’m starting to observe more.

    • Perhaps. I recently visited a friend’s house that’s fully decked out for their tortoise to roam both inside and outside. It was fun to see him cruising along on his little ramps.
