poetry: where does the eye focus?

don’t say tangle again
say ravel, say twist

wedges of wings point north
my broken toe points in

don’t say try again
say strive, say aim

the tide rises in my shoes
say move, then move

  1. What a beautifully crafted poem! I love the quiet power of your words and the way you transform simple substitutions into profound shifts in perspective. Replacing “tangle” with “ravel” or “twist,” and “try” with “strive” or “aim,” suggests that language itself can reshape the way we face life’s challenges.

  2. This is a spare, powerful poem exploring the relationship between language, intention, and action. The words we choose shape how we perceive our struggles, but vocabulary alone is never enough.

I loved the vivid images of migrating birds, a broken toe, and the tide rising in the shoes. The closing reminds it’s time to move on.
