“Every man’s life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another.”—Ernest Hemingway
This week my assignment for the 52 photo challenge was details. We were asked to take two photos of each subject—near and far. The idea is to show the context of the details.
As October is a time many honor those who have passed, I decided to visit the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery this morning for this assignment. Let me know which pair of images you like best and have a wonderful week.
- If you want to read the short story I wrote this time last year:
Week 42: Afraid of the Dark

Here are some creatures around the cemetery and one bonus photo:

- Photos were taken with Olympus OM-D and edited with ON1 Photo RAW

You did quite well. The moodiness of the cemetery and the lighting is fab. I like the first one, the moss was unexpected and the birds and animals of course I love 🙂

Thank you! Yes, I wanted to go when it was dark outside but the cemetery is only open during sunlit hours. I turned down the contrast and created the moodiness myself. I’m glad it worked for you.

The statue closeups of 1.2 and 4.2 were crisp and well framed. Loved the intimate squirrel snapshots in 9 and 11 – great focus! 🙂

Thank you! Yes, I was in love with those statues. There’s so much expression in their faces. Same with those silly squirrels.

You really want me to choose a favorite among this magnificent collection? I love the bird on top of the thinking lady and the light captured in the background of #2 is breathtaking.

Tough to choose! I like sets 5 and 6 best as examples of the assignment–I’m a sucker for a macro of a single rose petal! Thanks for the interesting set of photos, Bridgette!

I love the shadows in these photos, Bridgette. And just the concept of going to a cemetery, an old one at that, is such a creative idea for this prompt. My favorite is 5.1 and 5.2. I also really like 10. It’s as if he is pondering black birds or something. Wonderful composition.

Oh, my! Love the pairings, but especially #5/5.2. 💞💞💞 How lovely to be able to take in a scene as a whole but then focus in even closer to the individual aspects that make it even more special. 💞
