“What I want is for the two of us to meet somewhere by chance one day, like, passing on the street, or getting on the same bus.” —Haruki Murakami
This week’s assignment for the 52 photo challenge was street photography. I waited until I had a reason to go downtown tonight and it happens to be pouring rain. And dark. I did what I could to take advantage of those aspects and find something interesting to share. Let me know if you have a favorite. I think I’m turning in #6, but feel free to change my mind.
Only two more weeks of this challenge. It’s been a big year of growth for me and I’m so grateful to those who have been cheering me on the entire time. I hope I pass you on the street one day and you stop to say hello.

Your street photos are wonderful, Bridgette! The Bokeh, the fire engine and what’s up with 17 miles per hour? 😊

Thank you. That 17 miles an hour sign made me laugh so hard! No idea why they decided on such an odd number.

You’re welcome. 17… 🤭

I like the moods captured – and how the mood varied – depending on your angle – the colors – the bokeh – or the addition of someone with an umbrella.

Thank you! I’m glad you could see different moods here. Downtown shifts from block to block and it’s even more pronounced in the rain.

Alright, tough enough from my POV, not being so fond of cityscapes. But valiant effort on your part. Could you guess, going right to the one I immediately felt “kin” to, number three, that dark wet mostly ignored small corner store like we’ve all seen for years and years. No prestige, no glory, no bright lights, nothing to call attention to itself. The kind of image that feels comfortable to live inside to me, if that all makes some sense.
I do agree, you’ve worked your little finger well over this year’s worth of assignments. Also agree, take your laurels, rest, make your own prompts to follow. Think you are more than up to the task Bridgette.

Thanks, Neil. What you can’t see in that photo is the homeless person sleeping right behind the tree. I didn’t want to feature them out of respect, but there are a lot in our city now. All cities I think.
Thanks for the kind words and being such a great support!

A hard hoe to spade perhaps, a challenges’ worth I think. But subject and title for a poem you might write, “the homeless person you don’t see sleeping here.” Think you’d more than lure me with that thread. The picture too, takes on more meaning now. Beautiful, even if sometimes it hurts saying that.

That’s a good idea only I’m not sure I can write about homelessness. It feels so big and complex a topic. I will give that some more thought.

#6 is the most atmospheric but the abstract pattern of #9 is the most interesting; love the Murakami quote and what you did with it; hope to greet you on the street sometime 🙂

6 & 10. I think you did a great job given the weather conditions in which you had to shoot.

Thanks! It was a challenge for sure. I thought I’d see more umbrellas but not many people were braving the weather. We Californians get pretty used to the sunshine.

Haha. I hear that. We are used to the rain here in North Carolina. Lol.

Lovely all, but #6 gets my vote!

Numbers 3, 8 and 10 all grab me in wonderful ways but I think I lean most towards 10. Great work, Bridgette.

Thank you, Michael. I really like #10 too. It’s a nice comfy place to work from and watch the storm (we Californians overreact to most weather).

LOL. Most Minnesotans are obsessed with the weather. I swear, it’s almost a disease… My kiddos can’t believe that I honestly have a “meh, I’ll take it as I get it” attitude about the weather while they look for the next snowpocalypse. 🙂

Bridgette, life sometimes as a perception is deemed ordinary , but when seen through a lens life becomes extraordinary. 😁

Agreed! Simple moments are what make up a life and so a photograph is special as it captures a moment. Freezes it forever. This is why I love photography so much.

How is this challenge already almost done, ha?! Wow! It’s truly been a joy to follow along and see all the inspirations from your world. I love when your photo posts hit my notifications! Do you think you’ll continue when it’s over? (And I’m really drawn to photo #10 in this series. It’s beautiful and mysterious—wish I could roam that corner myself, ha!)

Thank you so much, Samantha! I can’t believe it’s almost over either. I think I’m going to continue to do weekly photos, but I won’t have “assignments.” I’ll just try to find beautiful or interesting things to share. I’m not stopping photography ever now. I’m hooked.

#7 is cleverly thought out. #10 is a welcome harbour in a rather grim evening.

Thank you. I love a nice wall shot and the leaves on the ground right now make everything look beautiful. You’d probably love that little coffee place. It’s cozy and the booths are super comfy.

You rereading my stories is so kind and it makes me take another look. I’d forgotten this story and I love it so much. Trudi will be fine, she knows how to take care of herself. This story is for Carly and Harriet. 🙂

All these photos are amazing. My fave is the 1st photo, and how the streetlight looks like it’s on fire – like a gas light.

#6 through to the end of the sequence. Tough shooting in light like that, seems to me.

It was pretty tough shooting in the rain, but I’m glad you liked the last few photos. I got several photography books for Christmas and it’s helping me to decide where I want to go with this photography journey in the new year. Still processing, but I think I’ll still clear from challenges next year and focus instead on creating photos that tell a story or which I find interesting.
