Photography: Autumn Walk

“He found himself wondering at times, especially in the autumn, about the wild lands, and strange visions of mountains that he had never seen came into his dreams.” ~ J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Tomorrow I embark on my third adventure into the lands of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). For those who don’t know, it’s an annual writing event in which participants write a 50,000-word manuscript during the month of November. It’s a huge undertaking. I’m a bit more nervous this year because of all the things going on in my life but also excited to rise to the challenge.

I spent four hours today outlining my project. The working title is “Bubbles in the Dark” and all of the characters are pulled from short stories I’ve written this year. It’s the tale of a mysterious shadow monster attacking a small coastal town slowly devouring the memories of those it touches. A young circus performer stumbles upon a possible answer but doesn’t know how to use it to help others. It’s a story of people bonding together during a time of crisis. A story of kindness found in chaos.

After my planning session, I took a nice hike near my house. It felt good to move my body and capture some of the beauty of autumn. I’ve included my favorite shots below. I hope they bring a smile to your face. Happy Halloween!

      • Alas, I’ve decided to finally employ some of the wisdom I’ve hoarded over the years and determined that my cup was overflowing with things I want and need to do, so I am skipping out this time around.

It’s odd, because I always make a token attempt, if nothing else. But this year was jam-packed before November even began and I don’t need to add to the already stressful month ahead.

        Good luck, my friend.

    • Thank you, Nicole! My husband thinks I’m crazy to attempt it with everything going on, but I need some wins right now. Thank you for thinking of my daughter. We are still taking it a day at a time. Depression is a mean little bugger.

  1. Gorgeous photos, Bridgette. I love all the autumn colours and I especially like the little lizard (at least I think that’s what it is.) Your story for November sounds amazing! I love the ideas for it that you’ve come up with so far. If you ever get it published, either on WP or as a book, I would definitely like to read it. Just from the little you’ve shared about the story, I am engrossed and left wanting to hear more of it. I wish you so much luck with it.

How are you and your family today? I do hope you and your daughter are coping as best you can. I think of you both very often and my heart totally goes out to your daughter. You know how to reach me if ever you want to chat and get some support. Love to you, my friend Xx 💗🤍💗

    • Thank you so much Ellie for your kind encouragement. I will let you know if it ever gets published. It’s a dream of mine. We shall see!

My girl is still struggling. Yesterday was a rough one, but we are taking it one day at a time. I’ll email you this week. I could always use support. Much love and I hope you are well today dearest!

  2. Beautiful Autumn photos, I really like the colours etc. There are definately a lot of creatures and plants in your area that are not in Eastern Canada, such as the Geko and Exotic Looking Nuts. My favourites are the Red, Green and Orange Leaves, Geko and the Feather on the ground.
