“Stories, like people and butterflies and songbirds’ eggs and human hearts and dreams, are also fragile things, made up of nothing stronger or more lasting than twenty-six letters and a handful of punctuation marks. Or they are words on the air, composed of sounds and ideas-abstract, invisible, gone once they’ve been spoken-and what could be more frail than that?” —Neil Gaiman
This week my assignment for the 52 photo challenge was to play with the idea of abstract photography. It was defined for me as photos that look unrealistic or unrecognizable. The goal is for the photos to look more like paintings or artwork than a photograph.
My photos this week are from two different locations. The top image and the first seven photos are from William Land Park, including the Sacramento Zoo. The final three images are from a Melanie Martinez concert I attended with my daughter last Wednesday. I edited these photos using the same presets to give the set a cohesive feel. Let me know if you have a favorite.
Thanks, as always, for your support. Life continues to be busy and I’m falling further and further behind in all things, but I remain hopeful and optimistic.

Thank you. I am doing well, but time isn’t my friend these days! Working on catching up the next few days. Be prepared for a lot of comments from me later today 🙂

Make sure you take care of you, okay?
That’s the most important thing.

Absolutely! I’ve been doing a lot of self care in the form of photography. It’s become almost meditative to me and I love the editing the process. I appreciate your kindness.

This may be my favourite series yet, Bridgette! Number 1 is my absolute favourite. Not sure what it is? I would have that one on my wall in a huge format! But numbers 6 (the animal enclosure), 7 (wild cat paws) and 10 (confetti?) really spoke to me as well. You are very talented. I love getting to choose your photos each week 🙂🙂🙂💕

Your favorite yet! Wow! That makes me so happy. #1 is the close-up of a plant with water droplets. And yes #10 is a cellphone photo from the Melanie Martinez concert when she shot confetti into the audience. I liked playing around with these types of photos and might try and do more of these on the regular.

I’m so glad you think so! Those were taken with my iPhone so the quality is a bit different, but I think in this case it works well.

Numbers 7 through 10 grab my attention! 🥰

Thanks! They are certainly different photos than I usually take, but I rather like them. The last three were taken with my iPhone and I think the grainer imagery works well for abstract.

When I process my photos, I use Aurora HDR (high dynamic range) which leaves the images very grainy. There is a function in the software called Denoise that cleans up the grainy look nicely and smoothes the image out.

I’ll have to try that. I have a denoise function on the software I use, but I haven’t really played around with it much. Thanks for the push to give it a go next time.

Glad you got the chance to relax and decompress. Some lovely snapshots of the wildlife and neon nightlife! 🙂 Especially liked the leaf dewdrops and the paws snapshots – great work ❤

1, 5, 7 are my favorites that look more like paintings. Were you at a foam party? And what is number 8? It looks like a babydoll at a rave?

Those last photos are from the Melanie Martinez concert and that’s confetti (not foam) and her in #8. She’s currently dressing as a pink character with four eyes and large ears. It’s pretty wild, but I’m in love with the concept of this albumn.
