“Put light against light-you have nothing. Put dark against dark-you have nothing. It’s the contrast of light and dark that each give the other one meaning.”-Bob Ross
This week my assignment for the 52 photo challenge was to capture contrasting colors. I was lucky enough to spend a night at Dillion’s Beach and these photos are from that brief trip. I edited them using a softer light and hope it gives the collection a cohesive feeling.
I’ll be posting a few more photos from the trip later this week. I’m amazed at how I can walk the same beach for years and always find new surprises. Let me know if you have a favorite photo and I hope you have a fantastic week.

Thank you! I must have taken 20 shots of those beautiful flowers but I really loved this more unexpected angle the best. I’m glad you liked it too.

#3 is quite good, but #6 is my favorite. #10 is a tie for second.

Thank you! Those rocks were in a little cave that I’ve visited many times before, but the colors hit me differently this week. I’m glad you liked them too.

The contrast between dark and light…the story of life, good and evil, but honestly all I see in these are the Glory of God and his beauty. I especially love the Poppy. It reminds me of my days I lived in California where they abounded!

Thank you! I really liked that one too. I took so many of those flowers, but for some reason, this side angle is my favorite. Perhaps it’s the gentle arc of the stems.

Definitely nailed contrasts Bridgette. I like the sunset/sunrise best 🙂

Love these. 7,8, and 1 are my favorites. That starfish. Hope you are well, I feel like I miss you?

I took probably 30 starfish pictures, but there was something about being able to see how it’s grabbing the rock that made that photo stand out to me. I miss you too! Let’s chat soon 🙂 You are one of those online friends I really want to meet in person someday. I mean, how much fun would we have in Disneyland together? The mostest, I think.

Gorgeous work, Bridgette! Love the starfish photo, for its content and different textures.

Thank you, Michele. The way the starfish is clinging to the rock really made me think of movement. I always touch them gently and am surprised by how solid they are. Don’t they look like they’d be soft?

Alright, there’s probably something old fashioned about me – but I like the sunset picture (1). Generally don’t, sunsets, nor colors so much either – but this one I really like. Hope folks are expanding these images. The sunset is almost a different thing when seen full size – water becomes textured, rocky teeth clearly adjoin the visible land – all understated so lets me “get closer” if that makes sense. All pictures good, but this is where I come back to land. Thanks.

It makes me so happy you like that one best. It was the night of the solstice and the sunset was so late I almost missed it. I was playing cards with the kids and then looked up and said “Wow.” I grabbed my camera and ran outside barefoot in my pajamas to capture this shot. The sun disappeared behind the clouds after only taking two shots. People on the beach clapped at how beautiful it was. I felt honored to have seen it.

Is the first photo the one of the summer solstice sky that you used in your poem?😊

Thank you so much! It was the solstice sunset and it was so spectacular that people on the beach clapped when it dipped behind the clouds. Such a wonderful moment.

I liked the pebbles in #6. Such nice, rich colours, and I can just imagine how smooth and nice they’d feel if I held them.

They were actually bigger than pebbles (think lime size), but very smooth and cool.
