poetry: twisted

12/30

sunbeams trace old
memories. twists
delighted joy
with fractured limbs.
freckled shoulders
brush tenderly

against his rough
bark. together
we weather all
shadows. bright green
hardened layers
protecting soft

insides. heal our
cracking skin. mend
bleeding sap. climb
higher into
branches, always
bending toward light.

  1. You make me so curious about shadows. Gonna need take a breath, read this a few times more, let it get under my skin. But oh my, that ending, “always bending toward light” is just perfect right. Nice!

Listening to Bobby Womack right now. Fits.

    • They really are! I was just walking near the state capital and saw a beautiful old magnolia tree with crazy cool twisting roots and huge white flowers. I had to stop and look at it for a moment. Took my breath away!
