“The empty blue sky of space says ‘All this comes back to me, then goes again, and comes back again, then goes again, and I don’t care, it still belongs to me.”
—Jack Kerouac
This week my assignment for the 52 photo challenge was to capture a big sky, not an easy task in the middle of a heat wave. Knowing the sky was devoid of clouds, I took a drive at sunset in search of vibrant color instead. The sky and sun did not disappoint. After dodging fireflies and mosquitoes, I then drove to my local park to get some city shots.
Not all these photos showcase the sky, but I wanted to give you some variety to look at. Let me know what you think and have a wonderful week.

*The pond at night. I’m quite fond of the distorted reflections in this one.

I’m not really fond of the term “selfie”, so instead we’ll say this is a “self portrait” from the earth back to itself. I’ll also say, glorious, whole-hearted beautiful, more than mind alone could imagine. Each in its own, wonderful, but taken as a thread, one to the next and next – awesome. Taken that way, I think it is the best possible response to that prompt – no matter what. You too, for seeing and sharing all you do.

I like 1,3, and 5, where the plant is captured and the sky is an expanse behind it. I feel small like that plant.

So happy you liked those! I was terrified to do “big sky” on a day with no clouds, but nature didn’t disappoint.

All your photos are stunning, Bridgette. Photo #6 especially caught my eye for its depiction of humanity’s march across the landscape in the name of progress.

Thank you kindly for this comment. Yes, it’s an odd thing we’ve done to the planet crisscrossing it with wires and poles.

Holy cow…what a beautiful sky! #6 was my favorite, with the almost perfect ‘stripes’ of color. I love sunrise/sunset photos, when the sky is painted so brilliantly it almost doesn’t seem real. Beautifully done 💞💞💞

Thank you! Yes, those stripes of colors were incredible. I was so lucky to capture it before it all faded to black. It was gone so quickly!

Dear Bridgette. Forgive me once again for being so hopelessly behind with your posts.
I love the deep and vibrant colours in your photos. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sky with these vivid hues before, certainly not in the UK (not that I’ve been anywhere else). I love #1, as the shot just catches the sun, making it look like it’s about to sink into the ground. Did you have to lie on the ground to get this image? It’s very clever. I also like #5, the pylons traversing the land, there to allow communication across the swathes of ground and across the skies. Finally, I also like #11, the image of the pond. Are the plants above the water, or are they part of the reflection in the water? It’s a very effective photo. Lots of love ❣ to you, my friend. Big hugs Xxx 🤗💕

I’d go with #4 – the contrasts of light down into darkness with the ugly pilons actually blending well as they follow the road into the distance.
