poetry: supermoon

20/30

we look upwards
towards a promise
we are small
but not alone
we are lonely
but not small

she sees us
our broken hearts
our shadow shapes
how we twist
moving in parallel
dreaming in sync

maybe bright means
lighter than before
we stand quiet
hands reach out
we look upwards
towards a promise

    • I’m so glad you found these verses comforting, Tom. I went to a local park to view the moon and was happily surprised to see dozens of cars and lots of people standing and simply taking it all in. Sometimes I forget how much we all want the same thing.

  1. Oh you picked my favorite moon first for your first. I know you love color. I love form. That’s my why. Man in the Moon, still obvious, don’t need being loud. But those delicate unfamiliar branches, twigs, those are the part closest to me – and that way, they become the More familiar. Yea, suppose my tastes are some odd. I am.

The poem. You did a lovely job in many ways, really very nice. Lots of many short threads, yet they move in rhythm here. Pacing, yes. And the side by side same same but differences too. Lovely work. Language I think is happy with you today. And the thing about something “implied” is that it’s not a stone. Each person can see it the way that’s meaningful for them personally, uniquely – and you don’t even need to “spell it out”, because they will for themselves. You get a gold star I think.

    • I don’t yet have the skills to get the moon and the trees in focus, but when I took that first photo I immediately knew it would be my favorite too. There’s something more “real” about it I think. Closer to what I was seeing.

Thank you for the kind words about my poem. This one came out in a rush and I’m realizing the best poems from me do that. The ones I labor over and think about too long seem to be just that…labored. I hope as poetry becomes a greater part of my life that I’ll have more moments of poetry just appearing like this one did. It’s a special kind of magic, I think.

    • My sister-in-law texted me last night that the moon was hot pink. I ran outside with my camera, but it wasn’t visible from anywhere around my house (too many trees). I wanted to get in the car and chase it. My husband called me a “lunatic” and I suppose he’s right.

  2. Thank you for sharing your lovely words and wonderful photos!!!.. “Life gives us brief moments with another, but sometimes in those brief moments we get memories that last a lifetime, So live that your memories will be part of your happiness.” (Author Unknown)… 🙂

Hope all is well in your part of the world and until we meet again..

Not just another day, my friend
For in spite of time, distance or whatever,
If only in spirit and thought
We’ll be sharing this day together.

So, have a wonderful day, my friend
Wishing you all the best, nothing less,
May today, every day, AND your heart
    Be filled……with love and happiness.
