52 Photo Challenge: Week 36-S Curve

A sentence with “dappled shadow” in it.
Something not sayable
spurting from the morning silence,
secret as a thrush.
Winged and Acid Dark, Robert Hass

This week my assignment for the 52 photo challenge was to create an image that contains an S curve. This is exactly what it sounds like—you look for anything that curves similarly to an “S” in either direction. While simple in principle, I must have been looking in all the wrong places because I found this quite a challenge. As such, the last few photos don’t contain a curve but are included just because I like them.

Let me know if you have a favorite and have a wonderful week.

  1. I dunno, I think you found more than I would have. I’m less visual than many people, however. I know what I like, but I can’t usually frame it in the real world.

Number seven hits me as the best, but number one fills in other spaces of my brain. Seven, I think. 😉

  2. Thought becoming grumpy might be a laudable ambition for older age. Maybe I’m on my way. (Not about you. You are wonderful.) Find an “S” curve? What about an “F” or “W” curve? Or what’s that poem thing, a Villaneau or such, and why? Form for form’s sake – I got better ways to spend my dime. That all said (grump) you did a fine job…

Number 1 is beautiful, rules or no. Are those buffalo? No, cows. My silly joke. Was gonna list off more, but as I look, I like them all. They each contribute, including the ones “just because of you” (and good for you). Best I can say from my heart – you make me think the big central valley can be beautiful too (us west coasters don’t think that much). So, that’s a singular accomplishment. Thank you for seeing as you do.

    • Your comments always delight me. Why not a “W” curve indeed! I’m glad my photos help you see the beauty of my area. I’m often surprised by the little pockets of open land all around us. We can get so used to buildings and businesses and forget that it’s not all like that.

In fact, I drove down one particular road that became gravel. I decided to keep going, just really slow, and it went for so long I began to get worried my van would get stuck. I found little on that road but did start to see the beauty of those big empty brown fields, the barbed wire fences, the pockets of green here and there. I passed a farm where two children were playing and they stopped to wave at me as I imagine few random people drive down such a rocky road. I thought about how different their life is from my own and only just a twenty minute drive away. If felt a little like time travel.

      • Your added description is wonderful to read. Including the children waving – spare change in the pocket.

I used to wonder, imagine the SF bay area before we people covered it all over. What a place it must have been.

  3. I love so many of them, including the photos you included, just because they especially appealed to you. My favourites are all the photos between and including #3 – #6. Although you said you found this challenging, you’ve done an excellent job finding natural and artificial curves.

(Dear Bridgette. Please, forgive me for having missed so many of your recent posts. I have had Covid, and although, at first, I thought I’d recovered well, I rushed things. I’ve been left exhausted, have no appetite and my concentration for reading anything, my blogging friends’ posts, books, magazines, books, etc., is abyssmal. I am so behind with everybody’s work and know I’ll never be able to catch up with so many. Strangely, writing is still something I can do. It’s something relaxing for me, somehow soothing and requires less concentration. Once again, I am so sorry, my dear friend. I will try and keep up from now. With my fondest love to you, Bridgette ~ Ellie Xxxx 💓🥰💓💐💓🥰💓.)

      • Thank you so much for understanding so kindly, my dear friend. I know it can take quite some time to recover from Covid. I thought I’d recovered fairly well, but I think I was being somewhat optimistic. I hope you and your family are all well and coping with life. Much love and many hugs for you. Xxx 💖🤗💖
