“The night is falling down around us. Meteors rain like fireworks, quick rips in the seam of the dark… Every second, another streak of silver glows: parentheses, exclamation points, commas – a whole grammar made of light, for words too hard to speak.”—Jodi Picoult
This week my assignment for the 52 photo challenge was to experiment with handheld long exposure. While this is similar to motion blur, instead of trying to capture movement you are trying to create it. I really had fun playing with purposeful movement and light.
These photos were taken either overlooking the city from my neighborhood park or in the local casino parking lot. The shots of my daughter are used with her permission and my gratitude. She’s such a wonderful supporter of me and always up for a drive.
I hope you like these very different kind of shots. I’ve also included two bonus photos of the supermoon. Let me know if you have a favorite photo and have a fantastic week.

- Photos were taken with an Olympus OM-D and edited with ON1 Photo RAW

The different colours in 5 and 8 look amazing – like a shower of meteors. 🙂 Great sunset capture for the last snapshot! ❤

Thank you so much, Tom. It was fun to play with light in this way. I think I’ll probably do it again sometime.

That last photo isn’t the sun, but the blue moon at sunset. I rather like how it looks like rings of color in the sky.

Definitely does! 🙂 Surprising how much fading sunlight still brightens up a view.

Great experiment. I love the ghostlike pictures and the nightshot of the buildings (I assume that what they are) is great.

Thanks! I like the ghostly feature of them too. Some of the shots are buildings and others are lights in the parking lot.

3 and 5 are my favorites. I get this alternate reality feeling from the ones with your daughter, like channeling a version of her from another reality. I don’t know.

Thanks, Nicole. Yes, the ones of my daughter are my favorite because of that other-worldly quality. I really like how weird they are.

Really way cool. I would use several for canvas enlargements to decorate my home. I especially like the heading photo and #’s 5, 6, 8, and 10. Just personal preference, not that the others aren’t good. Of course, starting with a Jodi Picoult quote nabbed me right away!

I love that Picoult quote. Her prose is just gorgeous! What a huge compliment saying you’d have these in your home. Thank you so much. You’ve made my day.
