Photography: Effie Yeaw Nature Center

“I felt my lungs inflate with the onrush of scenery—air, mountains, trees, people. I thought, ‘This is what it is to be happy.’”―Sylvia Plath

This morning my daughter and I visited the beautiful trails around Effie Yeaw Nature Center in Carmichael. A lot of uncertainty circles us right now and being in nature provided a much-needed respite. We saw five baby deer leap across the trail. Two large bucks slam their antlers into each other until one relented and ran off. Squirrels scampering up and down the trees. Salmon jumping out of the river. It felt magical to have this time together.

I hope you enjoy this selection of images and may it bring you a moment of peace.

  1. Gorgeous photographs, Bridgette. It’s hard to choose a favourite one. If I did, it would be the two deer walking side-by-side. Were they the baby deer? I love the bright orange leaves on the tree, too. I really enjoyed all these calming images – it gave me a moment of respite and I’m glad you got some relaxation time away from your family problems, too. How is your daughter doing? I think of you both often. Your difficulties are very near to my heart as I feel I have some understanding from my own experiences.

I think I’m behind with a couple of your posts at the moment. My concentration is rubbish at the moment, but I will try to catch up with them as soon as I am able. Sending my heartfelt love, peace and comfort to you all, Ellie Xx 💝

    • It was a mother and baby deer! They were nuzzling each other. It was so sweet.

My daughter is doing okay. We’ve pulled her some school for the time being so we can fully focus on her healing.

Don’t worry about catching up, Ellie. I appreciate you so much. Your kindness and comments always bring a smile to my face. I hope you are well too and having more days than bad.

      • Thank you so much for understanding why I’m all behind, Bridgette. That’s so kind of you. I’m glad that your daughter will be able to concentrate on her healing and that you will have more time together to focus on the important issues. The mother and baby deer are adorable. I sometimes get a Muntjac deer at the back of the garden! Don’t know how it gets there as the wooded area at the bottom of my road is quite a little way away. I’m always pleased to see it, though, and it seems to get itself home safely again. Love to you, my friend Xx 💖
